In addition to our county ADRC websites, Executive Office on Aging administers the following statewide programs:
Sage PLUS provides Medicare information, education and counseling.
Senior Medicare Patrol Hawaii helps people detect, prevent and report Medicare fraud, waste and abuse.
Long Term Care Ombudsman educates and advocates for residents of long term care facilities.
In 2005, the Executive Office on Aging (EOA) received an $800,000 federal grant from the U.S. Administration on Aging (AoA) and the Centers of Medicare and and Medicaid Services (CMS) to develop Hawaii's Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC). The project is part of a national effort to establish single entry or no wrong door access points to long-term care resources.
In 2010, EOA was awarded an ADRC Expansion Grant which is an infrastructure grant with the goal to empower consumers to make informed decisions about their options and to streamline access to the services and support they and their family caregivers need. The grant objectives: Develop a 5-year operational plan and budget for achieving statewide coverage of ADRCs; expand and formalize linkages with key aging, disability, and health care providers; provide options counseling training to staff on specific aging and disability topics; make enhancements to the ADRC website to improve access to information and services; and maintain a data collection and reporting system for quality assurance and evaluation.
ADRC's Major Accomplishments
The ADRC website was officially launched in October 2009. The statewide ADRC Telephone System (643-ADRC or 643-2372) and TTY phone line (643-0889) were fully operational May 2010. Developed marketing materials for the ADRC that included brochures in English, Japanese, and Ilocano. Completed consumer satisfaction surveys for ADRC baseline and follow-up data for the County of Hawaii and the City and County of Honolulu. Provided customer service training through the University of Hawaii Travel Industry Management School with all four ADRC County sites and the Executive Office on Aging staff. Conducted the ADRC Recharge Conference in April 2010.
Currently, EOA is in collaboration with the Counties of Kaua'i, Maui, Hawai'i, and the City and County of Honolulu in developing the ADRC operational model and five-year implementation plan.
